BBC: Hull biomass energy plant approved by council

07/11/2012

Plans for a £130m wood-burning power station in Hull have been approved by the council.

Power company Real Ventures wants to build a 49 megawatts biomass energy centre on King George Dock.

The project is expected to create up to 200 construction jobs and employ about 35 staff during its 25-year operational lifespan, the company said.

Hull councillor Alan Clark said he was pleased the project would bring "much needed jobs to the city".

It is the second project by the company to receive planning permission in the Humber region. A £130m biomass plant for Immingham in North East Lincolnshire was approved by the county council in April.
