The go-ahead has been given to build a biomass power plant on part of Hibaldstow airfield, off Redbourne Road.

Merlin Renewables Ltd, based in the Norwich area, has been granted planning permission for a renewable energy facility, associated landscaping and vehicular access.

North Lincolnshire Council approved the scheme through a decision taken at officer level.

Among the planning conditions imposed is one that the tree boundary around the development shall not exceed 15 metres in height at any time - "in the interests of safety for the users of Skydive Hibaldstow."

The council is also stipulating that the energy facility shall only accept non-waste plant material as a feedstock.

No material can be moved in our out of the site between 7am and 7pm the following day, and the plant cannot operate on Sundays or bank holidays without the council's written approval.

Hibaldstow airfield was used by the RAF during the Second World War.

Today it is popular with parachutists taken up by plane to enjoy their sport in the skies over North Lincolnshire.
