As reported in today’s Times, Prof. Bob Malmsheimer, one of the USA’s leading forestry academics, has urged UK Energy Secretary Ed Davey to “take a science-based approach” to policymaking on biomass.

In a paper supported by over 100 academic experts, Prof. Malmsheimer sets out four ‘fundamentals’ which seek to demonstrate broad consensus on the ability of sustainable biomass to deliver increased forest cover and productivity, as well as reductions in carbon emissions.
