Utility Week: Biomass heat the focus of early Renewable Heat Incentive payments

06/06/2012

Biomass boilers have been the major beneficiaries of the government's Renewable Heat Incentive subsidy scheme in its first months.

Figures released by regulator Ofgem show that 66 biomass boilers were accredited in England up to 1 June, along with 13 in Scotland and four in Wales.

The scheme, which has come under fire because of the number of applications rejected or returned to applicants for clarification or further details, has also supported one ground source heat pump in England and two in Scotland, and two more English projects - one water source heat pump and one solar thermal project.
